Our journey through Holy Week to Christ's crucifixion on Good Friday and then to the wonder of his resurrection on Easter Day is a very special time here on Holy Island. There are services each evening in Holy Week, including a service of Holy Eucharist and footwashing on Maundy Thursday; through to the three hours service on Good Friday. On Holy Saturday, we start the Easter Vigil with a bonfire on St Cuthbert's beach and a procession up the lane into St Mary's. We are joined by the Northern Cross pilgrims who will have walked to Holy Island from Scotland with life sized wooden crosses. On Easter Day we climb the Heugh before sunrise for the Dawn Service - beautifully atmospheric as we see in the joyful first light of Easter. At the sung Festival Eucharist later in the morning we will together celebrate the resurrection in the beautifully decorated church.
