Morning Prayer
As the day dawns
let us begin anew in your love.
Where we find darkness today
let your light shine through us.
Where we find light today
let us thank you and celebrate.
In our working, resting and meeting today
May we know you more clearly,
love you more dearly,
and follow you more nearly.
Loving God, hold us close to you throughout this day
that we may come to recognise you when all is rushing
that we may learn to hear your voice when all is loud
that we may know our need for you when all is busy
and that we may draw strength from you in everything we do,
trusting that you know us, love us, and provide for us.
Amen.
Or
Lord, may we be wakeful at sunrise to begin a new day for you,
cheerful at sunset for having done the work for you,
thankful at moon rise and under star shine for the beauty of the universe.
And may we add what little may be in us to your great world.
Amen. The Abbot of Greve

Prayers
A time of open prayer where we may name aloud or in silence the things we are concerned about this day.
Christ, as a light
illumine and guide me.
Christ, as a shield
overshadow me.
Christ under me;
Christ over me;
Christ beside me
on my left and on my right.
(Pause)
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
Be in the heart of each to whom I speak;
in the mouth of each who speaks to me.
This day be within and without me,
lowly and meek, yet all-powerful.
(Pause)
Christ as a light;
Christ as a shield;
Christ beside me
On my left and on my right. St. Patrick's Breastplate.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
St Aidan's prayer for Holy Island said in this form everday since the house opened
and may have been said by the monks on Holy Island.
Lord, this bare island, make it thy place of peace.
Here be the peace of men who do thy will;
Here be the peace of brothers serving men;
Here be the peace of holy rules obeying;
Here be the peace of praise by dark and day.
Be this thy island, thy holy Island.
Lord I thy servant Aidan speak this prayer,
Be it thy care. Anon.
Lord help us to see you in all we meet
and to seek you in all we find.
Let us go out to serve one another
in the name of Christ. Amen.
